The Pike Farmstand has operated for over twenty years on property owned by the Hopping Family. When the family told us of their intention to sell the property in May of 2007, we approached Peconic Land Trust to see if they could help us find a way to save the land from development. They agreed to try and we are pleased to report that the long effort to save the farmstand was a success. On March 4, 2010, PLT President John v.H. Halsey announced the purchase of the Hopping Family’s 7.8 acres of farmland on Sagg Main Street, Sagaponack. At the same time, Suffolk County and the Town of Southampton purchased the development rights, ensuring that the property will remain as farmland forever.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all those who have helped make this project a reality. We are grateful to the Hopping Family for their patience and willingness to work with the Trust. We want to thank all our customers who supported us by signing our petition and donating their time and money. We are especially thankful to the staff of Peconic Land Trust for their tireless efforts on our behalf, and their commitment to see this project through.
We hope that you will continue to support Peconic Land Trust in their efforts to save the natural lands and rural character of Long Island. Visit them at www.peconiclandtrust.org for more information.
We hope to continue providing fresh produce to our friends and neighbors for years to come.
